American compact cars simply aren’t what they used to be. Six years ago, we tested five $20,000 compact sedans including a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt LS and a 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 ST. Driven with a Kia Spectra SX, Mazda3 S, and Toyota Corolla XRS.

The Chevrolet and Ford placed fifth and fourth, respectively.

Spied! Refreshed Ford Mondeo Spotted in Arizona

Just outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, we’ve spotted the refreshed Ford Mondeo being followed by a Ford Fusion. Back in January 2009, Ford confirmed the next-generation Fusion would be built on the same platform as that of the Mondeo. While powertrain options are sure to differ from market to market, the Fusion-Mondeo convergence makes it less surprising to see a European Mondeo-like vehicle on American roads.
