OJ Update: New Tropicana News Plus Infographic

March 23, 2010

Near the end of 2009, PepsiCo (owner of Tropicana) lost the title of most popular seller of orange juice to Coca-Cola. Surprisingly, declining Tropicana sales were simply the result of a botched bottle facelift — not a change in the way the juice was made.

What we’ve got for you today is a useful infographic that clearly shows the ways Tropicana redesigned its orange juice cartons early last year. Check it out at the link below the jump… Read the rest of this entry ?

The recent and incredible failure of Tropicana to redesign its orange juice cartons is not, as the New York Times called it, PepsiCo’s version of a New Coke-like debacle. No, the fact that Tropicana experienced a 20% plunge in sales immediately after modernizing its cartons affirms the importance of graphic design compared to the inherent goodness of the product.

South L.A.: From Food Desert to Food Oasis

April 13, 2009

Fresh and Easy (11)

Turning South Los Angeles into an oasis that can provide healthier food to South L.A. communities was the subject of a two-day conference hosted by the California Endowment April 8-9.

BJ’s Pizookie Vs. Diddy Riese Cookie Sandwich: What Wins?

February 14, 2009

Cookie-edited-again

Clearly the Diddy Riese cookie sandwich.

What this photo fails to show is the $4.45 + tax in my pocket for choosing the cookie sandwich.  In other words, I could have three Diddy Riese cookie sandwiches to Chris’s Pizookie. The Triple Chocolate Pizookie featuring Ghirardelli was admittedly amazing if a bit rich, but a chocolate white chocolate chip cookie/chocolate chip with walnut cookie sandwich with strawberry cheesecake ice cream is only slightly less impressive.  Consider the cookie sandwich’s price advantage and you’ve got a clear winner and a serious overanalyzation of two tasty desserts.
